Discovering Totò
Italy, 1956, 35mm, 118 min., subtitled
In Italian with English subtitles
Directed by Camillo Mastrocinque
With Totò, Peppino De Filippo, Nino Manfredi

Afraid that their nephew Gianni will stop studying because of his romance with a starlet, the three Caponi brothers leave for Milan to persuade him to abandon the "Malafemmina.” Based on a song written and composed by Totò, this is the first of 5 films where the names of Totò and Peppino are coupled together in the title. Their Neapolitan contribution to 50s blonde bombshell films is a brilliant surrealistic spoof and was a critics’ favorite. Soon-to-be-leading-man Manfredi costars along with the "malafemmina" played by an actress with the unlikely name of Dorian Gray.
